Effective Performance Life
The effective performance life is based on field experience
and exposure tests conducted globally by 3M. When the
graphics are processed and used according to the 3M rec
ommendations, they should have the performance life
shown in the table below. The actual performance depends
on the:
•Use of compatible products
•
Ink formulation and drying methods
•
Proper selection and preparation of the substrate
•Application methods
•Angle and direction of exposure
•
Environmental conditions
•
Cleaning methods

Screen Printing
To get the durability given in the Effective Performance
Life section, use the correct combination of ink and over
print clear. Carefully follow the processing directions.
Check the appropriate Product Bulletins and Instruction
Bulletins for the limitations of each particular ink. Refer to
the 3M Related Literature section on page 4.
Compatible Inks
Refer to Compatible Products on page 1.
Exceptions
•Unprinted film 2008–10 may chalk in some severe ex
terior applications. If possible chalking is critical, the
film must be overprinted with overprint clear 1920DR
or 9720 UV. The expected durability is the same as for
the ink being applied to the film.
•
Graphics exposed to abrasive washing conditions,
harsh cleaners or chemicals required an overprint clear.Product Bulletin 2008 –3
Note: For the full product names of the 3M products listed
on this page, please see page 1.

See Instruction Bulletin 4.1 for details.
•
Bandsawing
•
Hot kiss cutting
•
Drum–typee electronic
cutting
•
Flat–bed electronic
cutting
•
Guillotine
•

Premasking and Prespacing
The type of application tape to use depends on the type of
graphic produced and the ink or clear coat that was applied
last. See Instruction Bulletin 4.3 for details.
•Use a prespacing application tape if the graphic has
large amounts of the liner exposed.
•Use a premasking application tape if very little of the
liner is exposed.

Application
Refer to the 3M Related Literature section for a list of avail
able application bulletins. The following are application
details specific to film series 2008.
Temperature
The air and substrate application temperature range for this
film is 3°to 38°C (37°to 100°F) for flat and riveted sur
faces.
Positioning
This film has a pressure–sensitive adhesive. On vehicles
and shipping containers, do not use detergent and water or a
commercial application liquid to position the graphic.
Finishing
If an application requires edge sealing, use edge sealer
3950.
Removability
Film series 2008 is not a removable film. Removal requires
a solvent–based, heat or mechanical remover system.
Shelf Life, Shipping, and Storage
•Unprocessed film has a shelf life of two years after
receipt. Processed film has a shelf life of one year.
However, the total shelf life of a graphic before and
after processing cannot exceed two years.
•
Store the film in a clean, dry area in the original con
tainer.
•
Store the film out of the direct sunlight and at less than
38°C (100°F).
•
Ship the finished graphic lying flat or in a roll. To roll
the graphic, roll it film side out onto a core that is 5
inches (127 mm) or larger in diameter. These methods
help prevent the film and premask from wrinkling or
popping off the liner.
